Kanganpur is a famous town in Chunian Tehsil, Kasur District, Punjab, Pakistan. It is located at 30°46’0N 74°7’60E and has a postal code of 55000. The town was founded by Rani Kangan Bars, the beloved daughter of Raja Mahipal and Rani Kabhowaan of Chunian.

In 650 AD, Raja Kambo of Chunian gave the area of Kanganpur as a dowry to his daughter. Rani Kangan Bars named the area after herself. The area of Kanganpur remained unpopulated for a long period of time, but Mughal King Zaheer Udin Babar transferred it as a feud to one of his generals, General Akbar Mughal, who populated the area.

A fort-like building named Rani Bagh is located half a kilometer northwest of Kanganpur. It was built by Shah Jahan in 1650 AD as a recreational place for the family of Maharaja Ranjit Singh.

The grave of Kangan Bars is in Burewala Tehsil of Vehari, adjoining the tomb of Haji Sher Dewan, who was her brother. According to revenue records, the total area of Kanganpur is 2928 acres. The town consists of two parts: Mound Kanganpur (old village) and Mandi Kanganpur (new village).

Famous Personalities Who Visited Kanganpur

Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the first Guru of Sikhism, stayed for a while under a Waan tree at the mound of Kanganpur with his companion Bhai Mardana. In 1939, the followers of Sikhism built a commemorative Gurudwara named Gurudwara Maal Ji Sahib at the same place.
