What is Invention?
We are going to introduce the inventions series. The word “Inventions” means to create something that doesn’t exist so far. An inventor is someone who discovers or produce a useful object or process that did not exist before. This series is about the work of the people who invented many of the things we take for granted today.
In fact many inventions help people to do things they could not do before. Others help them to work more efficiently. Necessity is the mother of invention. This proverb can point to the time of our invention.
They started in prehistoric times after man’s power of thinking was developed. After that he started thinking of ways and means to make his life as easy as possible.
Modern inventions are rarely the product of the efforts of a single inventor. For example, no one can claim that he or she invented the air conditioner alone.
Importance of Inventions
Thousands of people have played a useful role in it’s development and manufacture and many thousands more have improved it’s design.
Numerous innovations have required a few centuries to form into their cutting edge structures, so giving an exact date for their creation is unthinkable.
This was a period when inventions poured in one after another and affected almost all the fields of life. Almost every discovery is accompanied by one or more inventions.
Having been made over the centuries, inventions are still being made and shall continue being mode for all time to come. Today we are living in an electronic age and as is noticed practically each new day breaks with another developments. This section of the book, reveals inventions in different fields of life all over the world.

Aero plane, Air Conditioner
The most famous names in the development of air travel are Wilbur Wright and Orville Wright, commonly known as the Wright brothers. The invention of Aero plane has made every part of this world within the easy reach of human beings.
The invention of air conditioning made through Willis Carrier in 1902.
The Atom Bomb, Ball Point Pen
The first atom Bomb made through a team of scientists, J. Robert Oppenheimer, Otto Han, Compton, Fermi, Szilard and Albert Einstein. It successfully tested about 200 miles from Los Angeles in the U.S. on July 6, 1945.
The bomb explosion caused a 40000 feet high mushroom shaped cloud, the light was seen 450 miles away and devastating heat felt all around for miles.
The ball Point Pen concocted through Laszlo Biro in 1938.
Bicycle, Calculator
A bicycle is a vehicle with two wheels mounted one behind the other on a metal frame. The rider propels the bicycle by pushing two pedals with feet around a circle. In 1885, an Englishman named JK Starley, produced the first commercially popular bicycle with both wheels of equal size.
In 1890, brakes and air filled rubber tires and a handle came to add. The bicycle today, is the cheapest mode of transportation across the world. It also use in various sports activities.
A calculator is a electronic device that can perform four basic operations of mathematics, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, accurately and quickly. Calculators are of two main types, pocket calculators and desk top calculators.
The calculator has developed from the adding machine. This machine invented through an American bank clerk, William Borough. It was from this machine that the calculator developed.
Calculators soon became very popular and the demand for them grown over the years. Due to competition and mass production, good quality digital calculators have become affordably priced today.
